About WWCA
Why an academy? Wing Chun offers a way of training using man’s greatest weapon – the brain. Wikipedia states “An academy (Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of higher learning, research, or honorary membership. The name traces back to Plato‘s school of philosophy, founded approximately 385 BC at Akademia, a sanctuary of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, north of Athens, Greece.” Wing Chun is based on theories, principles, laws of physics, biomechanics and common sense(!) to ensure that size and strength is not the prerequisite to winning a confrontation.
WWCA was formed in 2001 when Sifu Alasdair Kirby moved to the Wirral area, having previously run classes in Luton and, prior to that, Ashford and Canterbury.
